Taiji at Heizhu Pavillion

Saturday of 1st weekend of month. Senior Seminar. 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Fee $20. This is for all “senior” (completed Wudangshan 108 Taijiquan form) Wudang students to practice the entire form together, obtain corrections and explore other, more advanced levels of Taijiquan study.

Saturday of 2nd weekend of month. Beginners Push-Hands Seminar. 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Fee $20. This is an ongoing seminar currently restricted to the members of a recently completed introductory push-hands workshop. Saturday of 3rd weekend of month. Shufa/Chinese Calligraphy. 10:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Fee $25. This brush work seminar is designed for both novice beginners and experienced ongoing students.

Sunday of 4th weekend of month. Weapon & Hand Forms. 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Fee $20. First hour devoted to training in other hand forms (Tangquan, Liuhebafaquan), second hour a weapon form (to be decided upon), and the last half-hour for individual consolidation practice.

Chinese brush calligraphy is an excellent practice for the cultivation of mindfulness. It is often taught in conjunction with TaiQi and QiGong. This class is appropriate for artists, students of TaiQi and QiGong, and anyone wanting to develop concentration and mindfulness.

LaoMa is the senior teacher with the Magic Tortoise Taijiquan School in the Triangle area of North Carolina. He has practiced Chinese arts for almost four decades.

Class will meet every other week for a total of seven classes.

Cost: $175 for seven classes

Materials: Can be purchased at first class or you can bring your own. You will need a good Chinese brush, sumi ink, ink stone and practice paper. No prior experience necessary.

Almanzo “Lao Ma” Lamoureux has practiced Chinese arts for over thirty-five years, and received his M.A. in Asian studies. He has been to China on numerous occasions, studying with many teachers and visiting sacred sites. From 1985-88 he taught English in Wuhan, China, and was the only foreign student of the renowned Grandmaster Ding Hong-Kuai. He is Senior Instructor (Laoshi) with the Magic Tortoise Taijiquan School.

The purpose of this interactive workshop is to explore how push-hands (Tuishou) relates to form understanding and enhancement. Tuishou practice teaches many principles, but we will be paying special attention to the principles of ting jin (listening energy) and nian jin (sticking energy).

Taiji players will be introduced to relationships between fundamentals, frame, form, function and fighting through the Combined Four Flowers exercise and various sets of “three-person push,” “two-person drills,” and “Da Lu” exercises.
