WHO WE ARE…

We are a non-profit club dedicated to the sport of throwing edged and/or pointed weapons (including knives, tomahawks, axes, spikes, etc.), open to all interested persons. We endorse and support the International Knife Throwers Hall of Fame Association http://www.ikthof.com. Members are encouraged to join this organization, participate in the IKTHOFA ranking system, and attend regional and national championships.

Regular throwing sessions are on the second Sunday of every month (beginning in September 2005) from 1-4 pm, at the range of one of the members on a rotating basis. Contact Dr. Jay Dunbar [email: drjay(“at” symbol)magictortoise.com or 919-(919) 360-6419 for information.]

Active members pay a $10 per year “target fee,” distributed to those who host our monthly sessions for range and target maintenance. Those who attend monthly sessions may also pay a $2 “range fee” directly to the host of that session.

Looking to the future we are now in the planning stages to host the Southeastern U.S. Knife Throwing Championship, sanctioned by the IKTHOFA, in October 2006.

MEMBERS NEWS

Congratulations are due to world champion Richard Wesson of Charlotte, who traveled to Claremore OK for the 2nd Annual Che Che White Cloud World Knife Throwing Championships April 18-21, 2007, and WON the impalement event (throwing knives around a poster of Marilyn Monroe) with a score of 68 out of a possible 75. The prize was $300 and a belt buckle. Richard also took 3rd in Expert Knife, with a score of 201. The Bladeslingers were also well-represented at the 3rd Annual Southern US Knife Throwing Championships, March 10-11, 2007 in Fayetteville, GA. Richard Wesson took FIRST in the Expert Knife Division, and Tim Bass took FIRST in Men's Intermediate Hawk, with Richard taking 2nd and Taylor Bass, one of Tim's two throwing sons, taking 3rd in the same event. All three are from Charlotte.

Beverly James, Jim Coveney, and Dr. Jay Dunbar attended the Central U.S. Knife Throwing Championship in Austin Texas over Labor Day weekend, and had a fabulous time! Beverly came away with a plaque for 3rd Overall in the Women's Division (combined knife and tomahawk scores), and a hand-made leather with fringe and bead trim ditty bag from her participation, with Jim, in the Mountain Man competition. Dr. Jay accomplished two personal goals: to qualify in the Expert Division amid stiff competition, and to be elected to the Executive Board of the IKTHOF. The latter means he is able to test local throwers and certify their scores for national ranking in the IKTHOF system. See http://www.ikthof.com for details of this, and practice the format at our local monthly throws.

Three founding members are in process of building throwing ranges of their own: Beverly James, Arnold Gold, and Allan Rosen, joining Dr. Jay Dunbar as potential hosts for Bladeslingers monthly sessions.

Beverly James and Dr. Jay plan to attend South Austin Karate's Central USA Knife Throwing Championships in Austin TX September 3, 4, and 5, 2005. More information and registration at ”Events” http://www.ikthof.com

July 29-31, 2005: the Ohio Wild West Arts Club held its Regional Convention as part of the Annie Oakley Days Festival at the Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville OH. In the knife throwing event, each entrant threw two sets of ten knives from 8 feet, 12 feet, and 15+ feet. In a field of eleven adult throwers, Ed Imperatore of New Jersey took 1st place. Dr. Jay Dunbar took 2nd place, winning a custom bowie made by Joe Darrah. John and Monica Bailey performed their impressive whip and blade throwing act; Dick and Rose Haines, Joe Darrah, and Che Che Whitecloud were among those present.

Dr. Jay Dunbar attended the Southern U.S. Knife Throwing Championships in Fayetteville GA, February 26-27, 2005, hosted by Family Martial Arts / Kuk SoolWon. He came in sixth in Knife, and first Tomahawk, both in the Expert Division. The championships followed IKTHOFA rules, and were attended by Mike Bainton, Joe Darrah, Todd Abrams, Ron Thomas, Dave Smith, and Linda Brown (women’s champion, from AL) among others.

Dr. Jay Dunbar attended the American Knife Throwers Alliance (AKTA) 9th Annual National Championships in Awendaw SC, October 8-9, 2004, hosted by Bobby Branton. He came in sixth in 12 ft and 18 ft knife, and eighth in tomahawk.
